Dr. Kunkel has 45 years of experience in hydrologic engineering and design; hydraulic engineering and design; NPDES permits; environmental permits; mining permits; environmental assessments and impact statements; surface water hydrology; groundwater hydrology; unsaturated zone hydrology; closure plans; solid waste disposal design; low-level, high-level, and mixed waste; site investigations; water quality assessments; water quality modeling; wastewater treatment plants; water resources planning; and water rights.

Dr. Kunkel was an Adjunct Associate Professor at Colorado School of Mines for 17 years where he has taught post-graduate courses on unsaturated zone hydrology and on flow and transport in fractured rock.  He is the co-author of the university textbook Unsaturated Zone Hydrology for Scientists and Engineers (1999, Prentice Hall, Inc.).  He is a licensed professional engineer in Arizona, Colorado, and Washington.
